Shri. Oommen Chandy is the 21st Chief Minister of Kerala State. Son of Puthupally Karottu Vallakkalil Shri. K. O. Chandy and Smt. Oruvattithra Baby, Shri Ommen Chandy was born at Kumarakam on October 31st 1943. He entered politics through Kerala Students Union. A law graduate, Shri. Oommen Chandy served as the State President of KSU and Youth Congress.

Elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Puthupally Constituency for the first time in 1970, he became Labour Minister in the 1977 Karunakaran Ministry. Served in the 1981 and 1991 ministries under the chief ministership  of Shri. K. Karunakaran as Home and Finance Minister respectively. Became the Chief Minister of Kerala in 2004, after the resignation of Shri. A. K. Antony.  He was the Opposition Leader of the 20th Kerala Assembly.

Previously elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1970, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006.
